All About Color

Do you need to convert pantone colors to RGB? Are you looking for what colors might go together? Here are some color related resources that I use when designing website graphics.

• Browser Safe Web Site Color Chart - Although most monitors and video cards sold today support millions of colors, they sometimes come shipped with a default display settings of 800x600 pixels for the monitor resolution and 256 colors. Many consumers don't realize that they can change these settings. That is why it is a good idea to design your web site using a browser safe color palette if you want every visitor to your site to see the colors that you put there. If you don't use web safe colors, visitors who have their monitors set to 256 colors will see the monitor's best guess as to what the color should be - it will substitute for your colors the closest approximation in the web safe palette - sometimes with very unattractive results.
  
  
• Color Tag Gen - ColorTagGen is a simple application that generates HTML/CSS tags from a color. ColorTagGen lets you use the MacOS color picker to pick a color. It displays the Red/Green/Blue (RGB) values and the HTML/CSS to be inserted into your web page. It allows you to pick from the 4 possible ways of specifying the color in the CSS Spec.
  
  
• Converting Pantone Colors to RGB - This color conversion chart allows you to convert Pantone® spot colors to RGB color values (Red/Green/Blue) and Hexadecimal color values.

• CSS Color Chart - This page contains a neutral colors chart and a general-purpose color chart. You can use the colors in the palettes with either HTML or CSS.
  
  
• back-to-font color picker - The Back-to-font CSS color picker allows you visually select background and font color contrasts. When you select a font color, the font color is also changed in the background list and vice versa. So when you come to select the background color in the background list the font contrast is visually seen. This makes selecting pleasing contrasts very intuitive, quick and simple.
  
  
• Palettizer css color contrast picker - This color picker is designed to visually highlight the contrast between the font 'color' and 'background color'.

• Infohound Color Schemer - This color schemer is a simple tool to help you experiment with various color schemes for your next web or print project. Click around within the shaded box to set the saturation and brightness, or within the rainbow to set the hue. You can also enter a particular value directly into one of the boxes. Matching colors will be automatically chosen. You can click on one to set it as the primary color.

This tool helps you simulate the appearance of our site's colors for people with different color visions. • Color Schemer Online V2 - An online tool by color schemer this allows you to choose a color and see what other colors work with it. You can lighten or darken your color scheme at the click of a button. You can also browse through other peoples schemes in their scheme gallery.
  
  
• degraeve.com - Enter the URL of an image to get a color palette that matches the image. This is useful for coming up with a website color palette that matches a key image a client wants to work with. Just upload a photograph and the on-line tool generates a color palette that goes with it. Pretty cool!
  
  
• colorblender.com - ColorBlender is a free online tool for color matching and palette design. To get started, choose a preferred color using the color picker below, and a 6-color matching palette (a "blend") will be automatically calculated. Using the radio buttons you may switch to Direct Edit mode to tweak or edit individual colors of your blend. Blends can be saved for future use, and will be available whenever you return to this site from the same workstation, given that your browser accepts cookies
  
  
• Test your RGB hex code on a large area of your computer screen - Here is a link where you can fill in those hex codes that you've found on the other color pages and see how they look covering a large block of your computer screen. Open this window and keep it open while you look at the other pages so that you can plug in colors as you find them.
